Assembly programming is really just a symbolic from of machine language. The language of the computer and because of this assembly language instructions deal with computer hardware in a very intimate way. As you learn to program in assembly language you also learn about computer organization. Also because of their close connection with the hardware, assembly language programs can run faster and take up less space in memory than high level language programs-a vital consideration when writing computer game programs, for instance. 

While this book is intended to be used in an assembly language programming class taught in a university or community college, it is written in  a tutorial style and can be read by anyone who wants to learn about the IBM PC and how to get the most out of it. Instructors will find the topics covered in a pedagogical fashion with numerous examples and exercise. It is not necessary to have prior knowledge of computer hardware or programming to read this book, although it helps if you have written programs in some high level language like Basic, FORTRAN or Pascal.

Theoretical computer science is the mathematical study of models of computation. As such, it originated in the 1930s, well before the existence of modern computers, in the work of the logicians Church, Godel, Kleene, Post, and Turing,. The UNIX system was first described in a 1974 paper in the communications of the ACM by Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie. Since that time, it has become increasingly widespread and popular throughout the computer industry where more and more vendors are offering support for it on their machines. It is especially popular in universities where it is frequently used for operating systems research and case studies.

The book is not a line by line rendition of the system written in English; It is a description of the general flow of the various algorithms, and most important a description of how they interact with each other. Algorithms are presented in C like pseudo code to aid the reader in understanding the natural language description and their names correspond to the procedure names in the kernal. Figures depict the relationship between various data structure as the system manipulates them. In later chapters. small C Programs illustrate many system concepts as they manifest themselves to users. In the interests of space and clarity, these examples do not usually check for error conditions, something that should always be done when writing programs. I have run them on System V, They should run on other versions of the system, too. 

Many exercises originally prepared for the course have been included at the end of each chapter, and they are a key part of the book. Some exercises are straightforward, designed to illustrate concepts brought out in the text. Others are more difficult, designed to help the reader understand the system at a deeper level. Finally, some are exploratory in nature, designed for investigation as a research problem. Difficult exercises are marked with asterisks.

Compared to other standard circuit textbooks which are available out there, this one has done an excellent job. It is written in a readable style that is so rare among textbooks in this field. The flow from topic to topic is straightforwardly continuous and the reading can even be very enjoyable (especially the introduction to each chapter). I very much wish there were more circuit textbooks written like this one, so that you can read and learn by yourself. But very unfortunately, most of them are extremely unreadable and so un-transparent in their presentation of fundamental concepts. For this reason, I think, Alexander's book deserves even more credit.t explains the concepts very clearly and maybe used for signals too, when studying Fourier and Laplace transforms. The authors do a superb job and make challenging concepts sound easy for the student. Extremely organized and well prepared book.

This is probably the best Discrete Math book that I have found. It's very thorough and covers all the topics of Discrete Mathematics that one would expect it to. There is a proof for most major theorems and numerous examples. This book is to teach you for build up your logic and this knowledge will be needed in your future. So, studying seriously and carefully that never repeated this subject again. 

Be warned though -- the first two or three chapters are kind of dry and difficult. Rosen explains things, but he doesn't spoon feed you. There's quite a bit of vocabulary and new ideas to digest; mathematical induction is just plain hard to understand in the beginning and it takes quite a while (and a lot of practice) to learn to construct well-formed proofs.
